Bicha Gallery presents the book launch for Dada (aka Coex’ ae Qgam), a Naro artist, dancer and storyteller. The book is by Ann Gollifer and Jenny Egner. The reception takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on September 30, 2011 (or 30 September for you in the UK….how did we wind up writing that differently? Probably same reason we drive on different sides of the road). The event is at Bicha, 7 Gabriel’s Wharf, South Bank, London SE1 9PP. That date coincides with Botswana’s Independence Day
Dada passed away in 2008 at the age of 74 but she was aware of this book project detailing and letting the world know about her life and work. Gollifer and Egner worked compiling material for this book for over 6 years, spending time with the artist and conducting multiple interviews. The idea all along was this book and it sounds like a fantastic project.
Dada was the first woman artist in Botswana to represent her nation around the world. She was an ambassador for a small group of artists working in the Kalahari (the Kuru Art Project), for women and for all marginalized groups around the world. This book is to be her story in words and art.
