Taraoka was born in 1938 in Japan. His father had inherited the family kimono shop but was determined his son would become an artist of some sort. To that end he studied art history and aesthetics at Kwansei Gakuin University. Fantasy, humor and commentary blend in the artist's work which is held in over 50 public collections worldwide.
