These are works that harken back to what painters have done since ancient cave paintings. This series of paintings, the No Comment Series, are examinations of form with an accent on brushwork, on technique but without any backward looking stuffiness. His pieces are not ALL of the human form. You can check the website above to see his more geometric pices.
His style is different from current trends and his work seems to come from a place where the art matters more than chasing it. I use the term "chasing it" in the same way you'd use it of a gambler who gets behind. This isn't to suggest Philoche is "behind"--quite the opposite. The gambler who "chases it" loses his house. Philoche creates art that is authentic.
Philoche has a BFA from Paire College of Art and a MFA from Yale. He has been the subject of numerous solo shows going back to 1998.
