Carpola Perla is an artist and a writer whose latest works were on display at Atelier 1022 Company, Miami. Spelling Bee and Off The Page are paper and light installations. Both incorporate Perla's writing. The latter piece has words excerpted from Perla's novel Gibbin House.
Even without explanation the two pieces are beautiful. They stand up aesthetically alone. Fortunately the artist/author was on hand and talks about her work below.
When you wander the streets of Wynwood (and adjacent areas) during "Art Week" in Miami you almost always find something interesting--solo exhibits at small galleries or in shops or other spaces. Perla was one of the jewels found accidentally this year.
