This is the artist's second solo show at the gallery. This exhibit will include a piece shown at Parasol unit (London). The work, Time After Time is a large oil on clay board installation.
Tolon's work looks at "landscapes of absence" and studies the notion of space filtered through imagination, memory and time. She often slices and scrapes oils across slick surfaces. The pieces, at first glance, may seem like geometric abstraction but they include more than that; they include hidden urban scenes and constructions, looking like photographs.
Tolon was born in Istanbul and moved around Europe while growing up. She studied design and architecture in Edinburgh and London and received a Masters in Architecture from University of California (Berkeley). Her work has been show around the world for over 20 years with shows at the British Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art the Istanbul Modern Museum, Saatchi Gallery and more.
