McCann, of Los Angeles, uses pyrography, a technique of ancient origin. Back in ancient (literally in this case) times artists and craftsmen uses burning designs into wood or leather. Basically McCann takes the ancient and drags it into the modern world. He uses iconic images and mixes them with satirical texts.
Curiously McCann was once a football player (for the Cincinnati Bengals and before that for Tennessee-Chattanooga). His career was cut short and he turned to art. He has used his fire technique in commissioned work for Patron Tequila, the New Orleans Saints and Gibson Guitars.
