Fenske is from Minnesota and has lived and worked in both Sag Harbor and Florence, Italy. The color in his work calls to mind the Impressionists but there are some stylistic elements that seem almost classical. The use of perspective suggests otherwise.

JSF Contemporary (Philadelphia) Showed Work By Thomas G. Brady At Philadelphia Fine Art Fair 20194/6/2019 JSF Contemporary (Philadelphia) showed work by Thomas G. Brady at Philadelphia Fine Art 2019. Brady is the primary focus of the gallery. The work is expressive and colorful ranging from landscapes to wild, sometimes vaguely disturbing human figures (well, SOME of them are vaguely disturbing). The landscapes seem to use an economy of brush strokes to create living, deep vistas. Merritt Gallery (Haverford, PA) Showed Work By Hunt Slonem At Philadelphia Fine Art Fair 20194/5/2019 Merrit Gallery (Haverford, PA) showed work by Hunt Slonem at Philadelphia Fine Art Fair 2019. Attendees at various art fairs around the USA (perhaps abroad too) may be familiar with Slonem's pireces depicting rabbits and parrots. Slonem was born in Maine and he is a painter, printmaker and sculptor. He apparently has some of the subjects of his work on hand; he has an aviary of tropical birds. Not sure if he has rabbits or butterflies as well. Visit huntslonem.com for more information . Isabelle de Joantho showed work at Philadelphia Fine Art Fair 2019 via Carré d’artistes (Philadelphia). The artist was born in Montreuil (just outside Paris). She mixes figures (often dresses with no occupant) and abstraction. Likewise she mixes paint, ink and objects in here pieces. Her work is thoughtful and , indeed, literary in its scope. The best art is often a piece that has a story or inspires the viewer to make up their own story. This piece is mortar, metal, acrylic and found objects on canvas. Janet Lehr Fine Arts (East Hampton, NY) showed work by Adam Handler and Wolf Kahn at Philadelphia Fine Art Fair 2019. Handler studied in numerous disciplines (and has a BA from SUNY-Purchase in Art History). You can see more about his background and raisin d' etre at the website above (or at his website HERE). This piece has the childlike exubrance of much of his work but it is sedate in comparison. There is something frenetic and wild in the pieces you will see at his website. Kahn is, of course, Kahn. He is one of the world's greatest living painters. Louis K. Meisel Gallery (New York) Showed Work By Yigal Ozeri At Philadelphia Fine Art Fair 20194/5/2019 Louis K. Meisle Gallery (New York) showed work by Yigal Ozeri at Philadelphia Fine Art Fair 2019. When I first saw this work (unaware of who it was by) I thought and, indeed, said "It is ridiculous to take a photo of a photo." But this is not a photo. This is oil on paper and oil on paper on a grand scale. this piece is 42 by 60 inches. This piece, and indeed every single piece on this site going back over a decade, should be seen in person. This is always true but it is especially true of Ozeri's work. More on him soon. Danuel Mendez, Joel Besmar and Dayron Gonzalez were all shown ny Cernude Arte (Coral Gables) at Philadelphia Fine Art Fair 2019 (April 4 to 7...as I type you have two more days to attend). Cernuda is a gallery that participates in numerous fairs but their booth rarely duplicates at one fair what is shown at another. Same artists perhaps but less often the same painters. Likewise you see acknowledge masters next to relatively new artists like the three shown here. If you want to know about or collect Cuban art? Cernuda is where you begin and end. I confess that when I write about Cernuda I often feel like I am writing ad copy for them but it is difficult to not admire the focus AND diversity of the gallery. by Patrick Ogle Among the galleries heading to Philadelphia Fine Art Fair (April 4-7, 2019) is Corridor Contemporary (Tel Aviv, New York, Philadelphia). The gallery has locations in Tel Aviv, New York and Philadelphia. They are one of 35 galleries participating in the first fine art fair in the city. Erez Zemach of Corridor talked to us about coming to Philadelphia. "The main reason is that we are opening a gallery in Fishtown in Philly this summer so participating in this fair is important for us. I also liked the fact that no art fair has ever been held in Philadelphia," says Zemach."Such a major art city with some major collectors as well as artists. So participation in the inaugural opening of the first fair seemed cool. In addition, I like Rick Friedman the owner of the fair." They are showing work by an eclectic group of artists.
"The first art work we thought of is the Robert Indiana LOVE sculpture. So many people I know that have visited Philadelphia have gone and taken their picture by his large LOVE sculpture at Love Park. It’s always been associated with the city. So we built the booth around it," he says. "We felt we can combine several layers of artists like Julian Opie (with that strong red color) as well as Yigal Ozeri and his new morning series and other artists at different price ranges that should work well together." Corridor is making a concerted effort to show their artists globally. "We just participated in Art Central HK and showing in Art NY this May. As well as two to three art fairs in the fall," he says."And for the next couple months we are putting much effort in finding young local artists for the new gallery in Philadelphia." |
