A new exhibit by Antonio Santin runs from September 8 to September 29, 2013 at Marc Straus (299 Grand Street, New York). There will be an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013.
The exhibit has two themes; the painting of women in lavish settings and highly stylized Eastern rugs. Looking at the example sent by the gallery you may think these paintings almost photographic. But they are not, there are subtle abstractions throughout;the bodies float, the light comes from impossible directions.
Santin, from Madrid, received his MFA from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Athens School of Fine Art. He now lives in New York.
