I have become a born again Mekons fanatic since seeing them play in Chicago a while back. I recall them saying from the stage they were looking for someone to put out their new record. Their record, Ancient & Modern, comes out September 27 on the Sin Record Label—the band’s own imprint. Good for them. Pretty soon, all the good record companies are going to be artist run and all the crap from American Idol will be left to the ever dwindling major labels and faux indies out there.

This is the band’s 26th record. Originally formed in Leeds Mekons were a band, if you heard them back when, you sort of didn’t know what to make of them. It was arty, it was punk, it was all sorts of shit to boggle the music fanatic teenager’s mind. The really fanastic thing is that, while the music has changed, the basic mind bogglingness hasn’t. You should all be looking forward to the planned tour in the fall.
