Matthew Herbert is releasing his record, One Pig, October 11th on Accidental Records (his own imprint). The record is about the life cycle of a pig—from birth to pork chop. It is the story of a single farm animal. Herbert is playing a live version at the Royal Opera House in London in September as part of the Just Tell The Truth Festival.
PETA apparently condemned the record. According to the press release, they did this without checking the details about Herbert. There was even a campaign to prevent the record’s release via Facebook (not exactly the Arab Spring huh?). As a, pretty close to, lifelong vegetarian I would like to take this opportunity to say the publicity hounds who call themselves “PETA” can blow me. Their histrionics do immeasurable harm to the cause they say they support. But I am sure their egos feel great!
This record is the last of three records called the “One Trilogy.” Each record is about one thing. Previous entries have included One One and One Club.
Herbert is an interesting charcter. He has worked with (as remixer, producer etc)
Björk, REM, John Cale, Roisin Murphy, Yoko Ono and Serge Gainsbourg. You may recognize him under some of his other monikers; Doctor Rockit, Wishmountain and Radio Boy
