Maps & Atlases, whose release Perch Patchwork I believe we have mentioned before, have just released a video for the track, Solid Ground. This is the first video from the record. The band is getting ready to announce tour dates beginning in November. The trippy video is directed by Taryn Gould and Emily Kowalczyk and was filmed in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts. Come on guys! You are from Chicago? Couldn’t you have filmed it in beautiful Cicero?

Thanksgiving never has enough rock n roll for me. Atlantans will not be able to say that after this year.
Manchester Orchestra is headling The Stuffing, the 1st Annual Atlanta Festival Thanksgiving Eve. There will be ten artists in three venues on this single evening,Wednesday, November 24th. Center Stage, Vinyl, and The Loft are the venues. In addition to Manchester Orchestra Dead Confederate, Kevin Devine and the first Atlanta performance by Manchester Orchestra/Devine side project, Bad Books. Presale has begun at Ticket Alternative. Regular on-sale begins Tuesday, September 21st at 1pm. I have no idea what the difference between presale and regular sale is. For more info go to the Favorite Gentlemen Website. The Civil Liberties Defense Center, a nonprofit organization of public interest attorneys and others. These folks work to defend and uphold the rights of activists through litigation, outreach, legal support and more. In a time when there are interests ALL over the political spectrum who want to restrict YOUR rights, we need more groups like this (and this is my site so I can editorialize all I want).
Autonomous Music is releasing a 13 track compilation, In Defense Vol. 1, which includes music from-- Willie Nelson, STS9, Marty Dread, Heavyweight Dub Champion and Killah Priest, Bluetech, Dr. Israel and Seven, Jeff Luers, Pitch Black, Blackbird Raum, Ramona Africa and MORE. That line up is all over the place, folk, country, reggae, jazz and rock, something for every taste and then some. The album will be out September 28th, 2010. To order this collection click HERE. For more info go to the Civil Liberties Defense Center Website. Two mixes of songs by Oh LandSon of a Gun (original)Son of a Gun (Yuksek remix) Oh Land is from Denmark. Oh Land is also one person, Nanna Øland Fabricius. The self-titled debut ep from the “band” comes out in October on Epic with a full length to follow in 2011. A couple of tracks are above for your perusal.
Fabricus uses a homemade music box to “translate” sounds. Apparently there is a balloon on top of this thing for video projections. NOW, I have no idea if videos are projected ONTO the balloon or out OF the balloon. You can find out yourself if you live in NYC as she plays in Brooklyn Friday (dates below). The Brooklyn date is with Unicycle Loves You and Frances. The remaining dates are with Mates of State. Tour dates are on the website which you have to click on a box and then on the band name that comes out of it. Good idea to HIDE the tour dates on your website… Check out the Oh Land Website. Girl Talk had a big-ass party at the Congress Theater in Chicago this past year. If you missed itnow you can at least pretend you were there. Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis) built a HOUSE on the stage. Building this thing took over four days and 21 workers to build. This place sounds like it is better built than were I LIVE when you get the details…drywall, real staircases, fake TREES outside. Insane (but in a good way) There is no date for the DVD release. Huh? Why ANNOUNCE it then? Ok..yeah, why build a HOUSE on your stage? Girl Talk did 240 shows following the release of the last CD, Feed The Animals, but have been taking a break in summer 2010. This “break” is to work on a new record that will come out in 2011 (the “break” actually sounds an awful lot like WORK to me). There are some upcoming shows—Friday, October 29 at Moogfest in Asheville, NC and Saturday, November 20 at Planeta Terra Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil. If anyone wants to spring for tickets I would be happy to check out this second fest. Irish singer/songwriter James Vincent McMorrow is coming to the U.S.A. for he first time. His first release came out in Europe earlier this year. He will be playing shows with another Irish artists, Bell X1. The tour starts in the City of Brotherly Love and ends in San Francisco. If you want to check out his music you can do so HERE. If you want to check him out live you can at the venues below-- Oct 6 Philadelphia, PA @ Tin Angel Oct 7 New York City, NY @ Le Poisson Rogue Oct 8 Cambridge MA @ The Brattle Theatre Oct 9 Northampton, MA @ Iron Horse Oct 12 Ontario, CA @ The Drake Hotel Oct 14 Chicago, IL @ Schubas Oct 15 Louisville, KY @ Zanzibar Oct 16 Pittsburgh, PA @ Club Café Oct 17 Vienna, VA @ Jammin' Java Oct 20 Los Angeles, CA @ Hotel Café Oct 21 San Francisco, CA @ Swedish American Hall Also have a look at the James Vincent McMorrow Website. The Other OnesBoston’s The Hush Now are releasing a New ep, Shiver Me Starships, on September 28, and a new single, The Other Ones, that you can hear above. What is really cool is you can download the ep at the band website. There will be shows. They call it a tour but it is only a few shows so I called it a mini-tour as I am a stickler for accuracy (cough, cough, cough…) Since there are only a few shows why not list them? September 24th – New York, NY – The Living Room October 2nd – Allston, MA – Mad Oak Studios October 4th – Chicago, IL – Elbo Room October 6th – Cleveland, OH – Beachland Ballroom The CD was recorded with David Newton of The Mighty Lemon Drops, mixed by Benny Grotto of The Dresden Dolls and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Arcade Fire, Magnetic Fields). photo by Adam Quane
Photo by Kelly DavidsonThe Dresden Dolls are heading out on tour for the first time in three years. Since you are reading this site I am sure you are hep and know the band, the forefront of a blending of punk, dark rock and cabaret. A funny thing happened though. They seemed to be pretty much the only band who could really pull this off (yeah yeah…tell me all about other bands that allegedly do it, I have seen them and you are wrong). The tour starts on Halloween (very goth) in New York City and includes a oil spill relief benefit for BTNEP, an organization looking to preserve and restore major estuaries in Louisiana. As part of the ongoing musical festivities French duo, Acid Washed are releasing their self-titled debut on September 17. The Danger Remix of the track, Acid Washed, is here above for your perusal.
The music is house-style au Francais with a dash of Chi-town and Detroit. They use modern and vintage gear to get at this unique take on the time-tested house genre. Acid Washed first got together last studio in a home studio in Brittany. Andrew Claristidge and Richard D’Alpert mae up the band. The Birthday Massacre’s latest, Pins And Needles , comes out Tuesday, September 14. The CD was mixed by David Ogilvie, who produced Skinny Puppy, Marilyn Manson & Killing Joke. The video for the first single, In The Dark premiered at Rue Morgue Magazine’s Festival of Fear in Canada. Dancey music with a hint of punk, a dash of industrial and lots of eyeliner. Have a look and listen. |
