Todd Terje Releasing "It's Album Time" April 8, 2014, Video Out Now

Todd Terje's It's Album Time comes out April 8, 2014 on his own label, Olsen Records. The Norwegian DJ is not a neophyte except where it comes to the long play format.

Terje has released a number of dance tracks recently and done smashing remixes for the likes of Hot Chip, Franz Ferdinand and even Bryan Ferry.

A funny thing about this video and the song that goes with it. You put it on (or I did) and think "Eh..." But then, if you leave it on it sort of sucks you in. It is fun both visually and aurally.

Tristen Touring To Support "Caves" LP, Releases Video For "Catalyst"

Tristen is heading out on tour to support her latest LP, Caves. She just released a video for the song, Catalyst (which is below). Most of the dates on the tour are with Jeremy Messersmith.

Tristen's sound has changed a little. Don't expect the vaguely alt-country tunes of her first record. That is probably a good thing--not that there was anything wrong with Charlatans At The Garden Gate? It is a good record. It is just that you cannot swing a dead cat without hitting a folk singer-songwriter.

Thomas Azier's LP "Hylas" Out March 10, 2014, Hear Title Track Now

Thomas Azier, from Berlin (via The Netherlands), is following up his Hylas EP with the Hylas LP. Why mess with success? Peter Gabriel called his first FOUR LPs "Peter Gabriel" after all. Hylas (the LP) comes out March 10, 2014.

In any case the record is an electronic, using analog sounds and juxtaposing harsh fractured sounds of the factory with emotive, warm vocals. You can check out the title track, Hylas, below and also a "collaborative" remix by Woodkid & The Shoes of the song, Angelene.

Azier is set to play a USA show February 13, 2015 at Irving Plaza.

The Go, From Belgium, Releasing New LP, "Brand New Love,' Hear Some Music Now

The Go, out of Belgium, have a new LP, Brand New Love, out February 18, 2014. Check out the video for The Lobby and a stream of We Run below.

This is electro-pop flavored with a fondness for electronic music of the past--recent or back into the 70s. There is a strong rock flavor here too though. It isn't "beep, beep,, BEEEEEEP" (not that there is anything wrong with that per se). Hell the title track here was inspired by a Sebadoh song.

Pitchfork Festival? In July? Be There Or You Are Totally NOT Cool

Early bird tickets for Pitchfork Music Festival are on sale for $110 for three days. Pitchfork really prices this down to the affordable level. Honestly you'd pay that much (in some horrible cases) for ONE band. Or for virtually anything if you are stupid enough to go through a scalper (they call them "brokers" to make them sound less like scum).

Anyway, as usual, you have to go to Pitchfork to hear new bands, bands on the rise or just bands that are extra special. Sure, the bands have been less odd ball in recent years but still? It is always an impressive line up.

Go HERE, GET TICKETS. Don't be like I always am and him-haw about it for months. If the early bird passes are gone? It will set you back $130 or $60 for individual days.

David T. Little's "Haunt Of Last Nightfall," Performed By Third Coast Percussion, Out February 25, 2013, Live Shows

David T. Little's new composition, Haunt of Last Nightfall, comes out February 25, 2014. The record was commissioned and performed by Third Coast Percussion and is based on the Massacre at El Mozote, El Salvador during some of that nation's darkest days in the early 80s. Little's compositions often deal with issues others prefer to ignore.

The piece will be performed by Third Coast Percussion live. Dates are HERE.

Modern Rivals have released the first single from their new LP Cemetery Dares (out April 22, 2014). You can check out The Dead Leaves via Popmatters. The band is playing some NYC shows--check out dates below.

The band channels the 60s spirit of bands like The Zombies and some of the "mod" bands. But this isn't to say they are all throwback--this is the modern equivalent of the mod/ psychedelic pop of the 60s.

A new single, Superstar, comes out March 11. They are also playing shows with Jake Bugg and The Orwells in the UK. The Georgia-based band will also be playing SXSW.

Hank & Cupcakes Release Video For "Cocaina" From New LP, "Cash For Gold"

The always interesting Hank & Cupcakes have a new video for their song Cocaina. The track is off their latest LP, Cash For Gold. This is the second single from the LP.

The video was shot entirely on an iPhone and includes footage from the duo's recent tour as well as graffiti from the Williamsburg Bridge, the DUMBO Ferry, subway dancers and other NYC things. Rudolph Guiliani is also in the video (I made this last part up).
