"My kid could do that" is an oft overheard comment at art shows. Usually uttered by people whose kids really could NOT do that. I've heard it stated while people stood in front of work by artists whose AIM was to duplicate the work of children.
Children are what ProjectArt is all about. It began in Harlem , the brainchild of Adarsh Alphons, with 10 students with the aim of providing arts education to underserved kids. They partner with libraries to provide this education free of charge. In a time when schools are abandoning arts education this is vital. What is most valuable in any society, what is remembered is what they create.
These days ProjectArt is active in New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles and Detroit. Find out more and get involved at projectart.org.
