As a general rule (in recent times) the art fair posts here have shied away from well -known artists. It is no hard, fast rule but still the attempt is made.
This Matta piece, from 1969-70, stood out even in the massive amount of museum pieces on display at Art Miami. Whether you call him a Surrealist or Abstract Expressionist he is still a master painter. He is almost certainly the most important figure in Chile's modern art movement.
He worked with or was a friend/acquaintance of Le Corbusier, Federico García Lorca, Gabriela Mistral, Pablo Neruda, Salvador Dalí, André Breton, Arshile Gorky and René Magritte. Just imagine them all in a bar together.
