Vorst was a German artist and Mormon convert who came to the United States in the 1930s. He settled in St. Louis. He was part of the art movement known as regionalism. The group turned against the cities and instead depicted scenes of rural life.
Vorst was apparently fairly well known during his life but he sort of vanished. His work is undergoing a renaissance. These pieces are oil on masonite.
