The first piece, Untitled, is made from compressed newspaper and wood (this should make my friends who work as journalists assign a new significance to their work). The second selection of pieces below includes Untitled VI, VII and VIII which are made of old clothing.
These pieces are more that use materials we see, and take for granted, every day. How many times do we toss out old newspapers and clothes without a thought? Sometimes recycling may be involved but as often as not these things wind up in the landfill.
There is something magical in taking what most of us regard as garbage and turning it into something beautiful. Nai takes this the challenge of doing this and runs at it with abandon.
