Freilicher was a landscape painter who worked for over 60 years. Many of her paintings where representations of what she saw outside the window of her studio on Long Island. Her work is realistic but not photographically so. The pieces are very "painterly." Subtle changes in color and tone are what create the background landscape in this painting. It looks realistic but if you examine it closely your mind may be filling in the details. Freilicher's work has a unique style and after you see a few you can always spot one of paintings.
