Mapanare; Art, Music, Movies, Travel And More
Patrick Ogle, Proprietor

A brief breakdown of what each section contains:

INTERVIEWS- This section features lengthy chats with artists, filmmakers, musicians, designers, writers and more. Generally there will be examples of their art and links where you can find more or contact them. Initially the idea was for these to be weekly, then bi-weekly but the scheduling will, I fear, vary wildly.

MUSIC -This section contains as many links to free things as we can find, music you can listen to here (or download elsewhere), videos, music news (new releases, tours, events, artists sponsored charities etc.) There small pieces here from all sorts of genres and possibly short form interviews and articles. These will post daily excepting, sometimes, on the weekends or when I just do not feel like doing it.

MOVIES -Interesting new releases on DVD or in theaters, new movies and more will comprise this section. This will not be exhaustive but more under the radar stuff that is interesting. ANYTHING about movies or video is game here. Another part of this section is links to movie websites and articles by writers we like.

ART-Gallery openings, art shows by notable folks and more. Coverage of whatever art shows and openings I go to will be here. Any gallery, museum or artist is fair game in this section as is any art-related event.

Live & Photos-These are photo essays with some words. The focus is on the images and mostly this will be live music (although I rule nothing out). Occasionally there might be more words because the pictures are crappy. I want to shoot some more Chicago acts for this, people I think might break through.

Mapanare is a nickname I was given many years ago which related to my eating habits (non-stop). The Mapanare, in addition to being an actual snake, legendarily EATS constantly. And that is what this site is about: constantly, consuming culture. I don't mean that in a negative way. Consumption of art is what keeps artists going. When you buy a painting, print, CD or go to a movie you are supporting culture. And we encourage you to do all these things. Hopefully we will cover all this from a different perspective and help get the word out on artists who get less attention than they deserve.

Suggestions welcome and feel free to comment on everything. If you are a musician/ artist/filmmaker? Send in your info by the contact form below and we will let you know how to submit stuff to us.
