Big Star isn't around anymore. Big Star's Third, released in 1978 is, however, one of the iconic records in rock history. Alex Chilton and Jody Stephens ‘studio project was also one of those records that was bought by everyone who started a band for the better part of a decade.

Now an all star crew--including Stephens--will play the record on June 28, 2013 at the Vic Theater (3145 N. Sheffield Ave.) in Chicago. You can get tickets this Saturday May 18 at www.etix.com.

Featured at this show will be: Jody Stephens (Big Star), Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Chris Stamey (the dBs), Mitch Easter (Let's Active), Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star) Ken Vandermark, Josh Caterer (Smoking Popes), Gary Louris (Jayhawks), Ed Roeser (Urge Overkill), Tim Rutili (Califone), Sally Timms (Mekons)

The band will also include: Charles Cleaver, Django Haskins, Brett Harris, Skylar Gudasz and a chamber orchestra.

Tecla from NYC is a singer, rapper, DJ, producer and more. Her new record, We Are The Lucky Ones, comes out March 19, 2013.  She blends pop, funk and tropical music.

You can check out the track, Money, below. This is Tecla’s take on gold diggers.

Tecla played a show last night in NYC and it is probably too late for anyone seeing this on May 13 to head out to Bowerly electric to see her. But she is also playing on May 28 at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC.

Carmen Villain (Carmen Hillestad) not only has a new video for her track, Easy, but is coming to the USA for her first show soon (dates below). The music calls to mind the well-known (Sonic Youth) and the more obscure (Queen Mary—Mary Pastorius). Hillestad plays the instruments.

This is interesting stuff and should make you want to crap a copy of her LP, Sleeper. This is out now on Smalltown Supersound. Hopefully more USA dates are in the offing.

Shows
4/23 - New York, NY @ Pianos
8/6-Sat. 8/10 - Oslo, NO @ Øya Festival

Yes, yes, we have written about Treetop Flyers before. And yes, they have yet to release their debut record. The good news is that a) they have a video for the track, Things Will change, and you can see it below and b) the full length, The Mountain Moves, comes out June 25, 2013 (which happens to be my birthday).

The U.K. band has also announced some USA dates. These are below. The band is often described as having a "West Coast" sound (meaning the USA) but they are more than some Mamas and the Papas wannabes.

It is fun music. Give a listen.

Tour
6/23 - Los Angeles, CA - The Bootleg
6/24 - Los Angeles, CA - School Night at Bardot
6/26 - New York, NY - Mercury Lounge
6/27 - Brooklyn, NY - Glasslands
